A 30MW solar farm is being planned, on a site straddling the Welsh-English border near Chester. The site, near the village of Bretton and close to the North Wales Expressway, would occupy eight agricultural fields.
The scheme is being jointly proposed by Ynni Newydd Cyf and Corin Hughes Limited, and will consist of solar PV panels mounted on racks, which would be mounted at a level that still allowed the fields to be used for sheep grazing. The output from the array would feed into the national electricity grid, via a local substation connection.
Consultants have requested clarification whether an Environmental Impact Assessment will be required to support the planning application for the project. The majority of the site sits within Flintshire County Council, with the balance falling under the jurisdiction of Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Ynni Newydd Cyf has been behind the development of other green energy projects in Wales.
